It started easy…⌗
We’ve been cruising 60mpg on the motorway, down from Kildare towards West Cork. All brilliant, until the point when i started hearing rough metal sounds from the gearbox the moment i lifted my feet from the gas pedal (5th gear). When i pressed clutch - all good, silence. I tried reducing a gear - same problem. What i found out, at the certain RPM range, it worked silently (as it should). Reduce the RPMs and the noise would become scary. All in all - after 150km , we ended up like this:
I tried calling a guy who I picked the car from, but no joy in helping. I tried calling my friend Paddy, to find out if he knows anyone with a trailer - no joy either.
Finally in act of desperation, i called the recovery folks, from Cashel who came out with proper equipment.
Once the cavalry came in, my old lady ended up on a trailer being recovered. First trip in LR Def 90 didn’t even last 4h. Epic failure.
All in all, cost of hauling her back to my place, was 450EUR. Guys were very professional, cost of the purchase just increased 1.5K which means rebuilding the gearbox and fixing her mechanically overall. Will let you know what else mechanically is she has broken. Gearbox will be brand new :) (and the clutch).
